One for Great Western fans... Incidentally the 0-6-0 diesel was already that colour, and the out-of-gauge guy on the furthest Prairie is a certain Mr Waterman.

Fictitious Liveries
A reworking of the 9Fs in Railfreight Red-Stripe livery. Original photo kindly provided by The Railway Magazine (first published in The Railway Magazine, Jul 2006).Previous | NextRebuilt West Country in South West Trains livery - not as easy or effective as on the streamlined Pacifics. White paint on a steam loco? Hmm.

Comments left about this photograph:
From Some guy on a forum at 2006-07-31 19:52:54 : "Those steam locos look disgusting in those colours, I want to be sick...Nothing better than GWR green on those beasts. I'd rather shoot the person who put those colours on those locos in that shot!"
From mark at 2006-07-31 22:37:13 : these gwr locos look strange, but what would have happened had stanier stayed at swindon? how aout a duchess in gwr green ? or a jubilee in gwr green? the person giving the comment obviously doesnt realise that it is all in fun? maybe he should get out more!!!!!
From Markw at 2006-07-31 23:16:41 : As someone who can't stand the GWR, I think it's probably the best thing you can do to a copper kettle. Other than paint them LMS red, or black. Carry on the good work, some amazing what-ifs on the site!
From Lee Scott at 2006-08-02 02:10:34 : I hope that paint is heat proof lol - They look quite good in that livery, actually! ;-)
From edwin fitchett at 2006-08-05 20:20:51 : I think that person making the death threats should be askeed to withdraw his comments this is supposed to be a bit of fun as well as a chance to inspire the imagination keep up the good work haven't seen many 31's done yet perhaps NSE stripes or railfreight yellow
From Dave at 2006-08-06 21:30:15 : Well thats an interesting "what if" scenario. Hopefully the cleaning staff will be kept busy !!! How about a 37 or a 40 in the original Deltic (Ice cream cart) livery ?
From Chris Ward at 2006-08-08 13:20:10 : Sad that this prat can't take a joke
From 43001 at 2006-08-09 08:11:05 : what about doing a 9F in first great western neon livery!!
From Ross Patrick at 2006-08-10 16:52:47 : How unusual... It is the kind of What if Steam Locos had survived to privatisation? Scenario Absolutely brilliant
From Kelvin at 2006-08-11 09:04:36 : What about the restored King Edward II it's been turned out in blue now!
From Paul Parkin at 2006-08-11 09:32:57 : While I am a Westie fan, those locos look quite nice really in FGW squiggily livery, not sure about the Shed's livery though:D
From Scott McAvoy M.B.E at 2006-08-14 10:44:25 : Fantastic. Could you do a King, City & a Star in this livery along with Vigin, GNER, Southern liveries. Please!!!!!!!!!!
From Steve at 2006-08-19 20:42:58 : Utterly bonkers, but wonderful! More, more, more! Could I see City of Truro in Amtrak livery? Or VoR Llewelyn in Inter-City Swallow livery? If you can't laugh at this you've got to be a 'sad sad man'. Or perhaps a GNER set in fully lined out GCR livery? The possibilities are endless... If somone did this for real I'd love to see the reactions among the purists....!
From Steve at 2006-08-19 22:09:04 : I should have added that this evidence only goes to proove that 'First Great Western' really WAS THE FIRST GREAT WESTERN. I was under the delusion that the marketeers in Paddington had had their memory banks clevery altered by Stanierite hypnotists, into believing that the 'real GWR' had never existed.
From Southern Railway fan at 2006-08-20 09:22:42 : But surely the original GWR was just a myth made up to scare children?
From A S&DJR Fan at 2006-08-20 11:47:20 : Growing up in west country (and still growing/ age 15) I have naturally been brought up with the GWR, but have gradually turned away from the GWR towards the S&D (LMS & SR). Regulary seeing FGW trains as well as GWR, this has been a very interesting pic to look at. A possibility for the future could be to produce 71000 in a later livery, or prehaps with some sister locos.??? Keep up the good work! P.S I think some people go a bit too far sometimes, and the GWR hasn't scared me...Yet.
From gwrmad at 2006-08-24 10:19:55 : as a confirmed GWR nut Ithink they look brilliant as do the westerns in this livery-wouldn't run them on my layout though.
From Murray at 2006-08-28 09:57:55 : Hmm...I'm not sure how well those swirls blend with the copper-capped chimneys and brass safety-valve covers, but it does make a nice change from Brunswick green...
From Kiyran at 2006-09-04 14:49:16 : Wont that lining get a bit filthy
From Chris at 2006-09-07 21:17:22 : Excellent! As the person who originally asked for this livery on steamers (to complement the HST in GWR's chocolate and cream) I don't think it looks too bad, although I'm not too sure I'd like to see it in real life!
From Lordloverocket at 2006-09-09 22:05:10 : Christ.............
From chris89 at 2006-09-14 23:09:34 : As i spent most of my life in somerset 15 yr's and jsut lived my last 2 yrs in shropshire i have to say as a GWR fan, the liverly does suit the locomotive's how about try the fag packet colours? or Merlin Livery?
From Crachach at 2006-11-16 12:46:35 : As a welsh teenager who is a great fan of the GWR, I have to say keep up the good work. They would look good in Taff Vale Railway Livery
From cj at 2006-11-22 20:18:53 : i love that ... i think thats one of the best things iv seen for yonks.. id love to see what they'd look lik ein just plain First group livery as oposed to the neon....
From train man at 2006-11-25 12:42:02 : Wats that "some guy" on about, they look absoloutly brillian in that livery like all other trains.the fgw neon livery looks good on anything.
From David at 2006-11-25 14:52:18 : That looks quite good actually. How about an A4 in intercity livery?
From llamafish at 2006-12-07 21:02:49 : how dare you say that about Owen! he is a fantastic bloke, although doesn't reply to my emails...
From at 2006-12-10 15:27:25 : 'anything looks good in Neon'?? 10 out of 10 FG drivers, conductors, and on-train staff would DISAGREE. Me included! ;O)
From Richard Swayne at 2007-01-07 21:32:59 : I am GWR fan, but is awesome.
From Alison at 2007-01-11 20:26:01 : I love it It really shows the fact that anything looks cool in this livery
From at 2007-02-02 21:12:02 : OH COME ON...
From jim knowles at 2007-06-02 23:09:46 : This really does prove that GW fans really hasvnt got any humour, teddy is still orbiting after the Steam Railway stunt, when they did Truro in B.R. black. this shot of the neon steamers had me and my son laughing, and hes only 4.
From at 2007-07-03 10:52:30 : i love this site so funny and wild
From Kieran at 2007-08-11 19:32:38 : REALLY funny!!! That'll make laugh until you cry!
From Sam at 2007-09-21 19:39:17 : FGW livery looks brilliant on anything!!!!That looks absoloutely terrific!!!!!!!!!!!!
From Damon at 2008-01-03 17:08:52 : You should've done the shed I see in FGW livery
From Annon. at 2008-05-13 23:11:52 : You should submit this to the BBC. Knowing them, they'd be dumb enough to broadcast it as a fact!
From Sam at 2008-06-05 23:32:41 : Wouldn't surprise me! Probably invent some story about the DfT saying its all thats left...
From Josh Pugh at 2008-07-26 17:10:10 : I like the First Great Western Neon Livery on all the steam trains
From Declan at 2008-08-10 01:04:44 : Fantastic. I love the GWR, and those coulor actually do suit the engines quite well. Pity there wasn't a King in shot.
From yorkshire lad at 2008-12-06 20:08:47 : some of the people commenting get quite worked up about some fun ideas you've put forward maybe they should shut up and pull their finger out of their bumhole!...great work i think it looks awesome..
From Kitola at 2009-03-08 10:34:55 : "This really does prove that GW fans really hasvnt got any humour" i'm a GWR fan...and i fink this livery strangely suits em. from this angle tho not the prairies as much..great work!
