Since every reaction I've so far seen about the Bulgarian livery has included the word 'rancid' I wondered whether it might be the absence of something quintessentially British from the scheme. Does it look as bad now?

Fictitious Liveries
One of the early suggestions for 87002's next livery...Previous | NextThis is a really quick rendition of a 66 in DB red livery. So there.

From Rick at 2008-04-17 00:51:12 : No I think your right, perhaps us brits are just set in our ways.
From j......... at 2008-04-17 08:27:53 : It looks better now.
From PhilD at 2008-04-17 20:05:35 : Looks like Freightliner supplied the inspiration.
From Owen at 2008-04-17 20:35:38 :

Didn't take long for a 'Freightliner' comment... The Bulgarian Railway Company's corporate colours are green and yellow. Hence the loco's livery is based around green and yellow. As it happens, and by a startling coincidence, Freightliner's colours are also green and yellow, as are BP's. If BRC's colours had been orange and pink, the livery would have been based around orange and pink. It's probably worth noting that the BRC livery has a big grey band on it (Freightliner's doesn't) and that the green and yellow sections are in completely different places to Freightliner's, and that in reality it doesn't have a yellow end.

From Dave at 2008-04-18 14:21:01 : Stil looks horrid - but if it keeps the 87s in action, regardless of where, i'm all for it
From Paul 87025 at 2008-04-18 17:31:10 : Take it from a top AC crank rather than some anoraks who think they've seen/had it all; nice livery. + @ least our East European neighbours are putting them to use which is more than I can say for them remaining in this country. Hmmm, sit in Long Marston for another 5-10 years, then get scrapped? yes...
From David Broster at 2008-04-19 16:20:11 : Yeah, I was thinking along the Fl theme as well...but I prefer Fl with the yellow cabs and green bodysides, although this is still a long way from "rancid" in my view, it's just "unconventional" but Owen, you're right, the yellow does make it much better
From Dan Adkins at 2008-04-19 19:57:32 : Horrible whatever the colour, it's still going to be exported! keep it in the country!! lol
From Rob P at 2008-04-20 15:28:59 : I like it. The front end looks just right to me. Wish I could work photoshop like you can, Owen!
From Murray at 2008-04-21 18:44:02 : Actually, in this case I think it is an improvement, but at risk of being controversial I have to say that in general I'm not a huge fan of yellow ends. I generally find that the presence of yellow in any colour scheme tends to make it look cheap-and-tacky, and I feel that most British schemes would look classier without them...or is that just me?
From Sam at 2008-04-24 02:24:11 : The real one doesnt have the yellow warning panel and the light is just underneath the windscreen, apart from that this is fine
From Nyall at 2008-04-26 11:21:33 : I was looking on certain railway websites, which will have to remain annonimous, and i found a picture of a First GBRf class 66 pulling three of these class 87's. Two of them were white but the other one was actually this colour!
From bob hodgson at 2008-04-28 15:57:51 : What a welcome change it would be to view one of these without one of the obligatory rancid "YELLOW ENDS"!
From Dan Adkins at 2008-04-28 21:27:24 : @ Nyall yes, that was the point of this photo, as the real livery has no front yellow end, so it was done to see whether it looks less 'rancid' answer: no!
From L. E. Greys at 2008-09-10 16:11:39 : Imagine if Freightliner HAD taken the 87's to replace the 86/6's. Although they might have been re-geared for 75 mph, they would at least have stayed in the country. Yes, I know this is NOT Freightliner, but it does give that impression.
